Dancing With The Chairman
I'm not sure how many people on this site watch the American version of Dancing With The Stars, but the new cast was announced today and among them was Mark Dacascos.
That's right folks, the Chairman from Iron Chef America will be on Dancing With The Stars!
Here's the link to the news blurb on E!
if you want more information about the show.

Cat Cora's 'Que Coming to Macy's at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA
In December, [Cat Cora] will launch CCQ (Cat Cora’s ’Que) inside the Macy’s at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California. The concept will be aimed toward families and mall shoppers and feature global barbecue with sauces from all over the world, including Asian, Caribbean jerk, and Argentinean chimichurri. ...
CCQ will share its Macy’s home with two other concepts, La Brea Bakery and celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson’s Marc Burger. ...
Cora expects to expand CCQ, although whether future restaurants will be aligned with Macy’s remains to be seen. “It can go anywhere and can fit into resorts, walking cities, and we’re also considering airports. I travel a lot, and I know how hard it is to find healthy and good quality cuisine.”

Fine Living = Iron Chef original
Hey all, sure you may already know this but I discovered Iron Chef is playing weeknights at 11 PM on the Fine Living Network here in the US, for those of you with that kind of cable access. Allez cuisine!

Fine Living Network
Is anyone else watching the original Iron Chef reruns on Fine Living Network?
I'm more than a little crushed that the Hans Zimmer music is gone, but if it's the price I have to pay to see a Kobe battle that I've never seen before, then so be it.

Does anyone know where I can find the recipe to the chocolate carrot cake Cat made last week on ICA? I looked on FoodNetwork's sit and couldn't find it :(

Interview with Iron Chef America's Chairman
This morning, LAist
posted an interview with Iron Chef America's Chairman (Mark Dacascos)
Although some say it doesn’t have nearly as much charm as the original cult sensation, Iron Chef America, is one of the top rated Food Network series since its first airing in 2005. Besides for some of the most inventive dishes one’s ever heard of – fish ice cream anyone? - the mysterious chairman gets to unveil the secret ingredient as well as the winner in that serious/self mocking tone. That chairman's name is Mark Dacascos, and we at LAist interviewed him about what being the IC Chairman is all about, his favorite battle, and the most delicious dishes he’s ever tried in kitchen stadium. Besides for being the Chairman, Mark is an accomplished actor, a Kung Fu champion, a husband, father, and a writer.more here Current Mood: awake

Kaga = fugu poisoning?
Sorry for posting twice in the past two days, but I just came across something sort of weird, and I wanted it to run it by you good folks.
I did not know this, but according to the storyline from the original Iron Chef, the show ended because Kaga died from fugu poisoning. I looked around, and that's reflected here
, and here
. It's also in the Japanese Wiki article
for Iron Chef ("主宰である鹿賀がフグの毒に当たって亡くなったため、その甥が後を引き継いだ")
, and that also provides justification for why the show was passed to his "nephew."
Freaking crazy, man. I know Kaga didn't actually die, but I had no idea they wrote him off like that. Did you?
One less IC...
Apparently the New York Post reported
that Mario Batali is done with the Food Network. "Molto Mario" wasn't renewed, and Batali won't be coming back as an Iron Chef. The next day, though, Batali struck back
and said that he's taping new episodes soon, but someone at Food Network said that he'll be replaced in November. Hmm.
I wonder who they'll get to replace him. Better not be Rachel Ray...

Dear Food Network:What is this shit??
The Next Iron Chef?? No...just no.
Your "The Next Food Network Star" is bad enough. But this??? First you have ICA, and now THIS?!!
Bring back the original Iron Chef. Stop showing it at 4 am every Tuesday morning. I can't stay up that late. I want my ORIGINAL Iron Chef. Not some knock off that y'all are going to conjure up. Hell, if it wasn't for the original IC, you wouldn't have ICA. ICA is okay at best. It's watchable. BUT it will never compare to the ORIGINAL IC that y'all have shoved to the very back. Put it back on where it was at every weeknight at 11 pm EST.

Japanese Language episodes
Hi, I'm part of a Iron Chef videos website ( stage6.divx.com/Iron-Chef
) and we are looking for anyone to contribute any episodes with the original Japanese audio. I have uploaded the few that I have but that is not many. If anyone has some please get in contact with me email@example.com
so that you can upload them there, or if you don't have the ability to get them on the computer you can send the VHS/DVD to me and I can upload them(of course I would pay shipping and I could mail back some DVDs).

Since Foodnetwork only airs the original IC eps at 4am I was wondering of anyone watches the US version. Except for Bobby Flay I like the US version. I also like Alton Brown and think the show is pretty faithful to the Japanese concept. ( Tonight's epCollapse )
I also think Jeffrey Steingarten is a bit of a jerk as well.

Need some advice...
It's been rather quiet around here, but I thought you guys may be able to help out. My housemates and I have been talking about doing our own IC-esque battle, but we're having a little trouble on the details. Since people in this community have posted about having their own battles, I figured someone would have advice.
The biggest problem is that we only have one stove with four burners of varying sizes. In theory, we could use the kitchen of one of the other houses around here that's kind of nearby, but I'd be running back and forth with pots and pans and such... and it's really cold outside. Still, it's a possibility. How have you guys dealt with that?
The other thing is that we're not really sure what to use as an ingredient. Neither me nor the girl against whom I'll be battling are particularly good at coming up with recipes on the fly, so I thought we could pick out an ingredient the day before, and then spend a day gathering ingredients or whatever. I was thinking we'd go through a list of the ingredients that have been used in the past. Does anyone have any ideas for ingredients that have worked out well?
I guess that's all for now. If I think of anything else, I'll post again.

I recall reading somewhere about rigging on IC and ICA. I swore it was here, but I went all the way back to 2002 and didn't see it, so I'm at a complete loss as to where I've read this.
Any help is appreciative! :)
Giada vs. Rachel
Anyone watch tonight's episode? My housemates and I did, and damn, were we disappointed. If it had just been the two of them facing off, it would've been fine - but nooo, they had to add in Captain Asshat and Mario Batali. The whole episode put Rachel and Giada in a secondary position, like they were just sous-chefs to the Iron Chefs who happened to have made a few dishes. We all started laughing when Giada couldn't get the bowl off of the food processor, and Flay had to come over and help her with it. After the judging, the outcome wasn't too surprising, but still, a pretty dismal episode overall. If only they had let the two battle each other without the ICs...

The ORIGINAL IC
Does anyone know if the Food Network is even showing the original Iron Chef
anymore - and if they what time does it come on?

Watching ICA: Battle Fennel... I can't decide if I'm happy or very, very disappointed that Mo Rocca didn't try to eat the challenger's goldfish. What does that say about me? (More importantly, what does it say about Mo Rocca?)

She didn't even see it coming....(this joke is so old)
I was browsing around Mainichi as usual but I came across something Iron Chef fans might be interested in XD Community is pretty lacking lately. Are they showing IC on FN yet?
Anywho, everyone's favorite fortune teller Hosoki was in the news. You can find the full article here.
Kazuko Hosoki, a 68-year-old ubiquitous presence on Japanese TV screens, is apparently seething over a series of articles run lowbrow men's weekly Shukan Gendai in which claims are made that the sexagenarian soothsayer had the yakuza try and pay off a journalist planning to write an expose about her.
OH NOES THE YAKUZA~!
