Kaga = fugu poisoning?

Sorry for posting twice in the past two days, but I just came across something sort of weird, and I wanted it to run it by you good folks.

I did not know this, but according to the storyline from the original Iron Chef, the show ended because Kaga died from fugu poisoning. I looked around, and that's reflected here, here, and here. It's also in the Japanese Wiki article for Iron Chef ("主宰である鹿賀がフグの毒に当たって亡くなったため、その甥が後を引き継いだ"), and that also provides justification for why the show was passed to his "nephew."

Freaking crazy, man. I know Kaga didn't actually die, but I had no idea they wrote him off like that. Did you?

He didn't die in real life. That's the mythology to end the series and start the US version.
Yeah, I know. I should have made that a little clearer in the post.. gonna fix.
Yeah, I've seen a picture somewhere of Asako Kishi with a black veil from the episode where they explained that.
A more fitting end than "massive coronary", but then the Japanese have always been in pretty good health. Even someone who ate as much as the Chairman...
